REX

For some reason I was wondering when Mardi Gras starts this year. That got me thinking about Rex and the Queen of the parades. (Don't even try to figure out my thought process) I found out the Rex website has names of kings and queens and their courts all the way back to the 1880s. I looked through at least 50 years and didn't find one queen by the name of Jewell or Hubbard.

I also discovered there is an official Mardi Gras song: If Ever I Cease to Love. It's a crazy jingle about sheep heads growing on apple trees! So I listened to it on YouTube.

Been to New Orleans a couple of times but never went at Mardi Gras. My last time there was with Mary Dinkel for a follow-up doctor visit from mastectomy reconstruction. Funniest thing was Mary and I wondering about all the NOLA signs everywhere. nolausedcars.com... etc. Finally asked the doorman at Commander's Palace who looked at us like we must be the dumbest middle aged women and said slowly: "NEW ORLEANS LOUISIANA."

There was a wedding reception in our hotel that ended with a dixieland band parade that went down the street and back to the hotel lobby. It was a wonderful celebration.

It must be time to get back to that city and hope it's recovered from the hurricane. There could be a place for me as a float queen - and maybe my REX will be there waiting for me.
