Today's temperature reached 76 degrees. We turned off the furnace, threw off our coats and opened all the windows; for a couple of hours. There are no buds on the trees or crocus shoots poking up yet. Neighbors were out - it was good to see them after all these months. Crazy thing is, it will probably snow again this weekend.
Winter started before Thanksgiving last year, it's been mild for most of it. Except February. February was really cold - single digits. You haven't truly experienced a full life until you've experienced a 4 degree day with a clear blue sky as bright as in the tropics, and you can't see your breath because it's crackly dry. Your hair stands up straight when you pull off your knit cap and you have to be careful how you touch things for fear of static electric shock. Pant legs stick to socks like velcro.
Today we had summer weather, with snowdrifts still frozen in the shade. Dogs don't get it. It's hard for them to get a consistent sniff going when there's mud then dry grass then snow.

Queen Me
There's a line in The Sweet Potato Queens that says all women should get a crown and name themselves the queen of something. So I did.
I've always felt regal, probably because I'm the oldest of three sisters. On Saturday mornings I would don my royal apparel, (bedspread cape) and make my little sisters serve me Cocopuffs on a tv tray while we watched cartoons.
Now my friends give me queen stuff like crown ornaments. I even have a "Kiss my Tiara" t-shirt. But I'm not sure over what I reign. Not root vegetables; or any festival. Parades are good though. Marching bands are good too. A parade for the queen of Royal Cove Drive. That works.
